MONDAY
Fighting has taken place between British and Turkish outposts east of the Seuz Canal. A Turkish force attacked a British post east of the town of Suez; it was repulsed. The Turks were terrified upon being attacked by bombs from an aeroplane, and retreated from some of their advanced positions. The Turkish invaders of Persia have been engaged and defeated by the Russians. A report from Paris states that the Russians have entered the Persian town of Tabriz, which was previously occupied by the Turks. The Russians are pressing the offensive in East Prussia, where the Germans are falling back upon Tilsit. At Pogegen, a few miles north of Tilsit, the Russians destroyed the station. The Russians are also advancing in the forest region south of Tilsit. Renewed German attacks on the Russian positions in Poland have been fruitless. In the Carpathians the are making a desperate effort. At one point a Russian advance guard was obliged to fall bade. Elsewhere, however, the Russians state that they have maintained progress.
