TAU HENARE AND THE DROWNING BOY

INTERESTING INTERVIEW HE MEANS BUSINESS * LAST week the ECHO recorded some facts in connection with the saving of a boy from drowning in the Awanui River, byMr Tau Henare, M.P., and who resides on his dairy farm near Kawakawa. The ECHO reprei sentative waited upon our old friend a few days ago, when he gave the following interesting review .—Tau stated that he and his wife were walking along the Awanui beach when he learned from a little native girl that a small Maori boy of about nine years of age (her brother) had got into the water and couldn't get out again. Tau immediately "ran" round to where the accident happened. Tau, having thrived on the good things liberally obtained in the North, weighs about 17 .stone, and his version that he ran, means in i reality that he " waddled." However, seeing that a strong ! current was running out, he " waddled" further round to a point where the channel passednear the rocks, and got into the water, and, as he says, fluked on the struggling boy. Tau then went on to say that he was too fat and blown-out to attempt to dive after his fast waddle, but by some little exertion he got the drowning boy to the surface by working him up with his feet, and eventually getting hold of him with his hands —the boy was almost lifeless. When I get on the land (says Tau), I nearly dead too —too fat and puffed out, and I see the boy's father there and I says —" Py goiry ! You vote Henri Te Pa the last time ! next time I bet you vote Tau Henare." A new election (on petition), is now being sought by Nau Brown on the ground of informalities-,
