HELENSYILLE A. AND P. ASSOCIATION
SEVENTEETH ANNUAL SHOW Much to the regret of everyone, the Show, which was partly held on Friday last, turned out to be a "frOvSt" owing to the continuous downpour of rain, starting in {he middle of the previous night and continuing on throughout the day. ' But 'tis an ill wind that blows uabody quid. The farmers, who were present in large numbers from the Burrounding districts, were pleased to see that the long drought had broken and the milk and cream supply would he thus kept up for an unlimited yttitfd. The attendance from Auckand out-districts was meagre, aM as a consequence the gates small. However, the stewards, who did their best under th 6 circumstances, met at 1 p.m., and decided to postpone the outside portion of. the Show, which includes the aports, until Saturday . next at 12 noon, full particulars of which are given in another column. Some of the lady exhibitors had a narrow escape from getting their needlework and fancy goods spoilt owing to the wet coming through the canvas of the large marquee where the inner show was held. The catering was in reality the best part of the programme, and great credit is due to all concerned. The hungry were well fed and waited upon by lady attendants. Had "the weather been more propitious there is no doubt in the least that the Show would have been the most successful in every point of view — exhibits, attendance, ami finance— knd as the Asbociation has incurred a heavy loss, it is to be hoped one and all will give a helping hand by patronising the horse sports — several extra items and prizes have been added—on Saturday next, and the Star Pictures in th.9 evening. As our space is somewhat cramped, we are compelled to leave out a portion of the prize list until next issue, when it will be completed along with particulars of Saturday's tvents.
