HELENSVILLE TOWN BOARD

THURSDAY, JANUARY 22ad PRESENT Messrs E. T. Field (chairman), J. Lambert, J. Wilson, T. Elliott, A. Becroft, G. Sellars, and the acting-clerk (Mr J. C. Rimmer). MINUTES Minutes of the previous meet" j ing were read and confirmed. CORRESPONDENCE Correspondence read and either dealt with or laid upon the table. CROSSINGS Messrs Sandin and Mascall and Co. made applications to the Board for footpath crossings opposite their premises.—The Board decided to put in the "crossings at applicants' expense. NOT WANTED As no satisfactory applications for the Board's horse, dray and harness had been received, it was decided to instruct Messrs Bucklancjj and Sons to sell the same on next sale day. THE NEW BY-LAWS The Chairman stated he had airanged with the proprietors of the ECHO to print the by-laws. MORE TAR NEEDED No green tar being available it was decided to procure ten barrels of distilled tar from the Auckland Gas Coy. THE PUBLIC POUND Mr V. McLerod wrote asking the Board to Mpay rent for the Pound or else remove iWrom his property. —The Clerk was instructe to inform Mr McLeod that they had nothing to do with the matter. [It appears the Waitemata County Council placed the Pound where it is.] BAD FOOTPATH A letter was read from Mr H. Graham, Helensville South, requesting that footpath in front of his premises be repaired. —The Board decided that the Roads Committee inspect the place in question and report at next meeting of the Board. TRANSFER OF DEEDS ! It was decided that Crs Field, Becroft, and Elliott be authorised to sign the deed of transfer in connection with the water-works land. FISHEMEN'S WHARF A letter was received from the Marine Department, Wellington, stating that the money for the erection of the Fishermen's wharf, Helensville was now available. —Board decided to call tenders for the work at once. i WEEKLY HALF-HOLIDAY In regard to the petition praying that the weekly half-holiday be changed from Thursday to Saturday, the Chairman stated j that a special meeting of the Board would have to be held to deal with the matter. It was then decided that the said special meeting of the Board shall be held at 3 p.m. on Saturday, 30th January. NOXIOUS WEEDS A lengthy letter was received j from the Agricultural Depart" j ment, re the Noxious Weeds Act, j and requesting the general feeling amongst farmers as to whether the Act should be wholly or partly enforced in the district. —After a lengthy dis' cussion, the Board deoided to inform the Department that the Act should be strictly enforced throughout the district. IMPURITY OF WATER The Chairman stated that as a number of complaints re the impurity of the water supply had reached him, he had sent for their engineer, Mr Munro Wilson who had visited the dam and suggested the flushing out of all pipes as a remedy. —It was decided that the Engineer's suggestion be carried, out, and that the water in the darn he not lowered more than six inches for flushing purposes. ASSISTANCE WANTED The secretary; of the H-ele.ns" ville A. and P.. Association wrote asking foi: assistance of two of the Bqard's men to improve the Show ground.—The matter 'being fully discussed, it was decided to grant the request, as the Association paid handsome rates and

rates and got nothing in return. FINANCE Various accounts were dealt with, while others were left until return of the Clerk.
