The feature of the war news is an account of a, naval engagement in the North Sea. Three of Germany's swiftest battlecruisers, the armoured cruiser Blucher, and several light cruisers and dertroyers, were Intercepted while steaming westward, apparently to raid some part of the English coast. The British battle-cruiser squadron, including the New Zealand, fought the three German battle cruisers and the Blucher. After three and a-half hours the Blucher was sunk. Admiral Beatty, who was in charge of the British squadron reports that, in addition to the sinking qf the Blucher, two of the Gfer-man ha^le^Qruisers were
seriously damaged. No British -'j^B ships were lost, and the only -ill casualties reported were eleven l|H men wounded on the battle- ~'|pH cruiser Lion. . si It is reported that when the J^H British squadron was sighted'^^M the Germans dashed homeward '^^| at high speed, but Admiral Beatty succeeded in bringing thie armoured ships into action.
