STRANDED!
THE EDITOR.
Sir, —I arrived in your lovely city fr&9|^^» Auckland on the morning of Friday last/ 7' by ex Dress, which actu ally • does the 38-mile journey a little —not a lot— under the three-hour stroke. But that's all right., I got there without an accident. All right too. My destination, however, was Dargaville and" the races to be held there on the following day, Saturday. But judge of my surprise when I discovered there was no steamer leaving Helensville until 8 o'clock the same evening. Here I contemplated things and Helensville in particular. I had been led astray by ;a woman in" Auckland. I inquired first all over the city, at the 'Star' and 'Herald' the Public- : Library files of the ECHO and the other papers, but could glean no y information whatever as to the steamer time-table, because there were none published. I ask is this .pure and unsullied meannesss iq treat the public like this ? In the old days the public had every information supplied, but now that the Dominion is further advanced, information in respect to that now wanting is n<St to be obtained. I suppose we had better put it all down to the war, which, of course, is nonsense.-* I am, etc. Disgusted.
