POLITICAL MATTERS

So far as the outcome of the last general election is concerned, the political situation appears to be in a muddle. Tau Henare, the Northern Macri Member, who may think he holds the key, to the situation, is evidently not endowed with party politics, because he'gave it out pretty freely in Auckland last week that "he is going to vote wtth the side which has the majority." Thanks for nothing. There is to be another election for Dunedin Central, Mr Stratham having resigned. A number of election petitions are to be heard next month, and amongst others, one to unseat Mr C. J. Parr, Mayor of Auckland. The ground of the petition relates to the issue of a certain document by Harris, secretary to Parr's committee, offering Wesley Richards £100 to go to the poll.
