... ♦ . The ECHO is out, and .says " Good-bye to the BAD OLD YEAR and good luck to you arid the New." Entries for the Helensville A. and P. Show close on the 16th inst. No late entries are to be received. Some of the hedges and overgrown foliage above footpaths have been cut down, but " not all of them." Tau Henare, the Northern Maori representative, -carrying much white in his eye, is still keeping dark. Will he rat? Who is going to clean-up the horsestand outside the Post Office? One gets a lovely mouthful of deadly microbes when passing by. The police caught four small boys pelting the railway notice board on Monday, and gave them a severe caution as to their fnture behaviour. The management of the Auckland Farmers' Union, Whangarei, notify that all vendors of sheep at their fairs must have them dipped and branded before being offered for sale. We should just like to skull-drag some of the big .larrikins who cannot keep their hands off, the ECHO signboard, by either taking them down to a finish or getting them fined £5 and costs. Mullingar's Christmas-New Year picnic didn't come off at Elerslie, Mullingarwas not fit on Boxing Day and burst a small blood vessel in the nostril. We wish our local sport, Mr Jas. Hand better luck next run. The Pictures at the " Star" Theatre have been very well patronised during the holidays, and on Saturday next the programme will include a great detective drama entitled "The Necklace of Ramases." Parents and others are reminded that the Helensville Church of Christ Sunday Scjiool will be resumed on Sunday afternoon next at 2.30, after being closed for two Sundays for the holiday vacation. A cordial invitation is given to any children who are not attending Sunday School. The only case the Helensville police has had to do with during the whole of the late holidays was a much troublesome lunatic from up the line, who had to be taken to Auckland, when it took three to manage the unfortunate. The re-count of the Bay of Islands vote on the petition of Dr Buck, commenced yesterday, by Magistrate Acheson, Messrs J. C. and Proudfoot acting on behalf of Dr Buck who was 111 behind Mr Vernon Reed. We think there is little chance of any alteration, though after recent bunglings elsewherei-who can tell ? According to weather conditions in Helensville, which are pretty hot, an unpleasant drought may safely be reckoned upon during the whole of this month, and m^ let us have it dry ihrough the middle of" next month ; we would therefore prevail upon consumers )f Town Board water supply _io ~~& eve.-., .— „ u, liU oe •• •■ moae'rate"." .Be thankful that Dargavitle conditions do not exist here. We learn, with pleasure, that Mr E. H. Cucksey, of the Helensville Hotel, has just purchased a 40 h.p Cadillac motor car—one of the best makes in the market. This machine will arrive on Saturday, and will afterwards be open for hire at all times for private journeys or picnic parties. We congratulate Mr Cucksey on his enterprise; such all tends to help the progress of the district and should be encouraged. So the celebrated Kamo Springs Hotel md Sanatorium are to be offered for sale on the 15th inst., Mr Bray being the vendor, and T. Mandeno Jackson the iuctioneers. This valuable property ias been on offer to the Government nore than once, but somehow or anyiow, neither Good Old Dick, Sir joe, *or William of Waiuku would bite. The Vinous "Champayne bath", alone is worth a mint of gold, and we have every "aith that someone or other is going to jet a bargain run for their money. Now that the festive season is over md the kiddies have enjoyed their Christmas and New Year gifts to their learts content, let us teach them how -o make a bonfire of them, as they were nostly of German manufacture. Cry mough ! And no more of them ! On he one hand we have been doling out 0 the Belgian Fund because of the tiurderous and starvation blow struck iy the enemy, yet on the other hand ye have been supporting those said rerman fiends by purchasing their ussed toys for our innocent kiddies.
