MAKARAU ITEMS

[own correspondent]

A POPUTAR YOUNG LADY'S BIRTHDAY

Mr and Mrs Hooper entertained a number of young people at a dance in the Hall on December 30th., on the occasion of their daughter Edith's 21st birthday. The room was beautifully decorated, and the floor in splendid order, while the music (piano, violin, and cornet) was a treat in itself. A very dainty supper was set out at Mr and Mrs Hooper's residence (near the Hall), and was done ample justice to, after which the guests again returned to the Hall, and danced till 3 a.m. Songs and recitations were given at intervals during the evening. Three cheers were very heartily given for Mr and Mrs Hooper, and also for Miss Hooper.
