THE KAIPARA AND WAITEMATA ECHO With Which Is Incorporated "The Kaipara Advertiser & Waitemata Chronicle." Helensville, Friday, Dec, 4, 1914. NEXT WEEK
In view of the excitement arising out of the general elections now people are forgetting pro tern all the horrors and wickedness of the present huge and murderous war, and, for the time being, taking sides on their own account. In regard to the Kaipara election, both parties appear to be confident of their man winning. So it is with the heads of the Government and Opposition—both are confident of being returned with a fair majority, but this is always the case. " Bluff " is answerable for a lot of hoodwinking at election time, but upon this occasion both parties are working harder than any previous election. One would have thought that now Mr Massey has had the run of the Government for two years (after trying to get there for about eighteen years) he would be allowed to hold on to office and given a fair trial for at least another term, because, after all said and done, Mr Massey has not committed the country to ruin nor perpetrated any crime, and yet has had a bad time " all the time." But that would never do ! Sir Joseph Ward, whose party wHs in power for so many years, must get back to power or the bottom will fall out of New Zealand. Well, next Thursday will soon be over, and sore heads in plenty with it.
