A practice, which many expressed would be more frequently carried out, was initiated on Monday evening, when Mr F. Dye (member of the Waitemata County Council) met the ratepayers, whose representative he is, to give an account of his stewardship. Mr J. B. Jordon presided over an attendance of close upon 30 ratepayers, who followed the remarks of the speaker with keen interest. Mr Dye detailed the various works he had successfully accomplished while in the Council, and still was able to reduce rates. This he was able to do, largely through reducing expenses and for the last two years having no interest to pay on overdraft. However, as many of this years grants were on a £ for £ basis, he was afraid he would have to go on to the overdraft, though, as he explained, it really means paying only 3 per cent of total amount spent. The division of the county would, in Mr Dye's opinion, be a mistake, as would also the proposed shifting of the county offioers. The speaker advanced weighty reasons in support of his arguments, which found favour with his audience. In order to assist the councillor in resisting both or either proposal, a delegate was selected to co-operate with Mr Dye. After satisfactorily answering questions, Mr Dye announced that he solicited the ratepayers' support at the forthcoming election. A unanimous vote of thanks and confidence was carried with acclamation, ' Light refreshments, provided by Mr Dye, were then handed round and were much appreciated.
