What a pity. The Kaiser still lives. One misprint in connection with the German Emperor's ■ oration at Berlin lightens the tragic gloom, " His Majesty's speech was greeted by cheering cows." Agricultural Show dates are generally announced free in the Government "Journal of Agriculture," Wellington. Time Helensville was announced. The new metallic circuit between Helensville and Auckland is now completed and in use. The public should have no reason for complaint now at being kept waiting. The wolves in some parts of Russia never had such a picnic in all their natural as now, the human meat being already slaughtered for them to the number of thousands of bodies. It is quite time that the Helensville Brass Band did have a benefit. Note the advertisement for next Wednesday night at Becroft's Star Picture Hall. The admission is but 6d, and all should attend this laudable function.

A well-known character of Kaukapakapa, named Motu Vera, alias Captain Gabriel (a Hiniu), who was over 80 years, and caked out a living as a gumdigger (when able), died on Saturday last, and was buried at Helensville on Monday in the local cemetery.

Whangarei appears to be slow in the political arena, no one at present appearing to be inclined to oppose Mr' Frank Maunder, M.P. Surely it is not possible he is going to have a rosy walk-over as a Reformer. Yet if not, why not ? Still, where is D. ,T. McKenzie the great ?

The " Moderate League" has taken root in Christchurch during the past week, and it certainly will receive a lot of support. The moderate people form a big percentage of the voters to this country, and they are evidently going to make their views and voices heard in the near future. —" Spectator."

Association's Show, to be held January 29 next, and it is to be hoped that business people will encourage their venture by patronising the advertising pages in a liberal manner. Our canvassers are on the alert for favours in this respect.

Trafalgar Day (Wednesday last, 21st inst) was not made a great feature of by the business portion of the town, though a few of our principal citizens put up the Union Jack, which proudly fluttered in the breeze in memory of Nelson's greatest naval victory and the old wooden walls qf England.
