PARAKAI PATRIOTIC CONCERT
A VERY enjoyable concert was held in the Parakai Hall last Friday evening, the promoters being the Parakai Patriotic Coramitiee. The weather was all that could be desired, and people from far and near rolled up and filled the Hall to overflowing. The programme was an excellent one, as was testified by the numerous and enthusiastic encores. The items were as follows: Song, " The Deathless Army," Mr Rennie ; recitation, " How we Won the Ribbons," Master V. Aitkenhead; songs, "The Bugler" and " Boys of the Old Brigade," Mr C. White ; songs, •" My Dear Soul," "Somewhere a Voice is Calling," and " It's a Long Way to Tipperary," Miss McElwain i violin solo, ''Chauson Polonaise,"/""* Mr Carter ; songs, "Land of H«dj|^, and GJpry," and "An, Emblem;" X Miss Fletcher ; songs, " Let Me Like a Soldier Fall" and "Thora," Mr W. Rennie; song, " Border Ballad," Mr Carter; song, " God Retnembers when the World Forgets," Miss Channon; duet (in costume), "Army and Navy." Messrs D. Rennie arid Screaton ; songs (violin obligato by Mr Carter), " The Songs the Angels Sing," and " Come Sing to Me," Miss Rimmer; song, "Go to Sea," Mr Screaton; humorous items by Mr. McElwain, as usual, nearly * brought the house down. ! The concert was followed by a dance, which was kept up till mid-night. The proceeds, which amounted - to about £15, are to be handed over to the Empire % Defence Fund. The duties of secretary were carried out by Mr Arnold McLeod in a very able manner.
