MRS TOMMY ATKINS
We beg to acknowledge receipt of words and music, from the publishers, Messrs Alex. Wildey Ltd., Christchurch, of the latest patriotic song entitled " Mrs Tommy Atkins." There have been many outbreaks " since the war commenced; but we must admit that after a perusal of the score of " Mrs Tommy Atkins," it is considerably .above the average productions in this class. The following are the words of the first verse :—
Now that dear old Mother England is a callin',
And now she's busy wipin' out her foes, We ain't the ones to sit a doin' nothin', While the Kaiser's treadin' on Britannia's toes.
So now she wants assistance, she can reckon
On us givin' her our help of every kind; But when Tom's away a fighthV for his country, What about the wife and kids he's left behind ?
Chorus—
Have you got a " bob" to spare for Missus Atkins, For her hubby did his country's call obey.
He has gone to fight for you, So the least that you can do, Is to help her now that Tommy's gone away.
