JACKASS OR DONKEY.

TO THE EDITOR,

SIR, —Saw your reference to Kaiser's "Mem und Gott," in the 'Observer' of Sept. 12, page 12. A capital joke. But that "Mem" of yours is just great, and would make your fortune as a foreign correspondent in Europe. But get a German dictionary in the Auckland Library, and see what it means. Only don't explode; it is not a German floating mine. As an accomplished linguist of European fame, have a go at the following few words. Perhaps you know French better :—"Tu es un ane." Yours admiringly Graf yon Molkte. Onepu, Rotorua, September 10, 1914. [NOTE. —It means thou art an ass, jackass or donkey; we would add you are a fool, and your name spells mud, not Molkte, therefore throw your trash somewhere else. —"Tv quoque, Brute!" And you too, O Brutus! Deserted in our extremity by many of our former friends, the unkindest cut of all comes when he who is dearest to us strikes at us. O Wilhelm, why did you do it?— Editor.]
