FORESTERS' ANNUAL BALL
A GREAT SUCCESS
The For esters' Ball took place on Tuesday c vening, the 11th inst., and although the weather was not all that could be desired, it had no effect on the attend- ~ ance and success of the ball, there being upwards of 80 couples present. The .#• Hall was tastefully decorated with evergreens, and the stage fitted up as a lounge for non-dancers. The Ball was opened by the singing of the National Anthem to the accompanir ment of Meredith's String Band. Mr R. Hoe, candidate for Kaipara, then spoke a few words in reference to the serious state of affairs in Europe at the present, after which all joined in singing •' Rule Britannia." ' The music was supplied by Meredith's String Band, of Auckland, and was indeed excellent. During the evening vthey rendered several popular airs, including "The Marseillaise," " My Rosary," " Silver Threads among the Gold," j&nd^; : ' When You and I were young, Maggr^Bfc Among those present from otner Courts were: Miss Tapp, Court Chaldrick; Mr Ansell, Court Pride of Onehunga ; and Mr Spinley Senr., Court Nil Desperandum. The following dresses were noted : Miss Hafford, lovely white silk, with beaded net overdress. Miss Megson, maize coloured velvet, with lace overdress Miss A. Megson, pale blue with lace overdress Miss Cullens, pretty blue satin, with dainty trimming Miss G. Fifield, stylish creme frock. effectively trimmed Miss M. Fifield, charming frock of silk voile. Miss Stanaway, handsome pale blue silk. Miss M. Johnson, rich white satin and lace Miss Turner, white silk trimmed with fnr Miss K. Turner, pink velvet Miss J. Turner, white silk trimmed with fur, relieved with red poppies Miss Masters, ruby velvet, effectively slashed with cream satin Miss O. Donovan, white satin with lace insets Miss H. Donovan, handsome crimson satin and rich lace Miss Becroft, dove grey voile Miss C. Becroft, pale blue silk voile Miss Bradley, dainty heliotrope frock ' Miss Vercoe, pretty blue, daintily trimmed Miss W. McLeod, cream satin relieved with rich lace.
