Crusade for Short Finger Nails.
A short finger nail crusade is one of the results of recent revelations as to the French nation's laxity ir all matters connected with hygiene The movement has been .brought about by a series of analyses made by two well-known medical authorities, • Drs. A. Sartoti and Marc Langlois, of the organic inattei stored under the nails of the aver-
age person who deals with raw or
cooked food. A waiter in a cheap restaurant, for instance, was found to harbour in his nails a quantity of dangerous germs. Those of a cook, otherwise very clean, proved on analysis to give shelter in addition to staphylococcus and other bacteria, some germs not yet identified. Germs and eggs of a very objectionable nature were found to be the common inhabitants of the finger ends of general servants, grocers' assistants', and others who had to handle food. Henc© it is in the interests of the public health that all persons, and especially those connected in any way with the food supply, should keep their nails not only perfectly clean, but extremely short. .1405.
