Biggest Diamond in the World.
RIVAL TO CULLINAN FOIND IN
SAME MINE
The second largest diamond in, the world has been found in the Premier Mine, Transvaal. According to a report from Johannesburg, the diamond was discovered after blasting at the foot of the mine, the stone being in the shape of an egg with the topcut off, but with some black streaks which experts consider are merely surface flaws. It weighs 1,649 carats, and ia more than half the size of the Cullinan diamond, which came from the same mine. The weights of some of the most famous diamonds in the world are The Cullinan, 3,035* carats ; Koh-i nor, 186* ; Great Mogul, 787. The Cullinan diamond was so named after the then chairman of the company. It was presented to the King by the Transvaal Government and was cut into eleven flawless stones. The largest, of 516* carats, is nov.i in the Imperial Crown, and two great stones are worn by the Queen as jewels, as a pendant, on State occasions.
