F^ELENSVILLE V. WAIMAUKU
THE final Cup match, between Helensville and Waimauku took place on Saturday last, 4th inst. The weather was perfect and the proceedings were livened by the strains of the Helensville Brass Band, whose playing, although they are newly formed, was really good. The Band had not its full complement. Helensville, although defeated by a try, certainly played the best game for the season, and towards the end of the play, had the best ot the game. Waimauku kicked off, followed by a scrum. On account of Foster (Waimauku) holding the ball, Helensville was given a free, a line out following. Waimauku got a mark, from which Tuki Kino got a mark well kicked into Waimauku territory. After some even play Williams (Helensville) carried the into the 25. A scrum followed. got a free, and Helensville forced; again a scrum. Helensville rushed, and Tui (Waimauku) saved the situation by carrying the ball half-way. Again even play. Waimauku got a mark, and some long kicking ensued. The whistle sounded for the first change with no score being registered for either side. From the commencement of this change the fortunes of war were with Waimauku. Tui, securing the ball, carried it past the 85. Waimauku followed np, getting well into Helensville's defences. Then followed a scrum, from which Luttrell kicked the ball right into the Waimauku lines. Waimauku got a mark, which was succeeded by a scrum. Helensville got a mark, and Williams kicked for a goal, but failed after a very good try. Fletcher got the ball and carried ir to the 25, Shortly after Tui secured a try for Waimauku. Fletcher kicked, but failed to convert. The whistle then sounded half-time, the scores being Waimauku ... ... 3 Helensville ... ... 0 Waimauku kicked off, and after some long kicking got a mark. Even play and scrums ensued for some time, when Waimauku got a free —then a scrum— and rushed, and some very pretty passing on their part took place, but J. McLeod saved the situation. Waimauku got a mark, but did not gain much advantage by it. A scrum followed and Helensville got a free. This ended the third change, and no further scores were registered Waimauku ... ... 3 Helensville ... .... 0 Fourth Change,— Helensville kicked. Even play followed till Helensville rushed. Waimauku got a mark, and a line-out followed. Helensville carried the ball into Waimauku's line, the latter getting a free, from which Helensville got a mark. Then ensued some long kicking, and Helensville got another mark. Even play followed for some time. Helensville then rushed and Waimauku forced. Williams got the ball and carried it to the 25, and Waimauku got a free. This ended the game without any further scores being added.
