SUBURBS V WAIMAUKU

The third Cup match of the second round-was played last Saturday on the Helensville Football Ground. , The weather was ideal, and the ground good. Waimauku, the leading team, won again, but a very plucky fight was put up by Suburbs. Waimauku kicked off. McArthur got the ball and found the line at 25. Then followed a scrum, the ball being this time carried into Suburbs' ground, and for some time a good deal of even play followed. A free was given to Suburbs for a breach, and C. McLeod took the kick, but failed to register. After some scrumming Tui got the ball and passed to Fletcher, who got in very close to the goal line. Suburbs again got a free for off-side play, and the whistle then sounded for the first change, no score being registered on either s'.de. Suburbs kicked off. Waimauku rushed and Suburbs forced. Play was now pretty even for some time. A free was given to Suburbs, and Waimauku rushed. Then followed a series of scrums, till Tui again got the ball and passed to Taylor, who scored a try, but failed to convert, Waimauku ... ... 3 Suburbs ... ... 0 Nothing further of any note happened during this spell, the play continuing very even, and no further score was registered for either side till the whistle sounded. Alter the kich-off scrummiug continued till Waimauku carried the ball into Suburbs' territory,- Suburbs forcing. A free was given to Waimauku, the balll finding the line at 25. Again scrums, till Tui.got the ball and registered another try for Waimauku. Waunauku ... ... 6 Suburbs ... ... n Suburbs now rallied, carrying the ball into the enemy's country. C. McLeod at last got a chance, securing the ball he rushed through Waimauku's defences, and registered the first score for the Suburbs. Waimauku ... ... 9 Suburbs ... ... 3 From the kick McDonald (Suburbs) got the ball and carried it through to the 25. Suburbs got a free kick, but failed to gain much ground by it. For another breach Suburbs again got a free, and McDonald got the ball -and ran through close to Waimauku's goal line. Waimauku forced, and the Suburbs kicked, the bail being from tnis out kept in the Waimauku territory. ,The play at this stage was very fast, but no further score was registered, and Waimauku again became the victors.
