THE KAIPARA AND WAITEMATA ECHO WITH WHICH IS INCORPORATED "THE KAIPARA ADVERTISER & WAITEMATA CHRONICLE." HELENSVILLE, FRIDAY, JUNE 26, 1914 THE TOWN BAND

THERE is no doubt about the old adage that " Music hath charms to soothe the savage breast," and as proof of this on Saturday evening last, smiling, jovial faces and children dancing were to be seen "while, listening to the Band" playing lively 'marches, waltzes, etc., which was an unexpected pleasure and one seldom •experienced in the town. There is no gainsaying this, fact of pleasure, as it was evinced whole-hearted by the spontaneous collection, and as a correspondent elsewhere suggests, it is to be hoped the Band will " come out" often in future, or may be once a week. He also suggests that a Band rotunda be erected —a capital idea—and that socials, etc., be organised so as to procure the necssary funds. This should be easy of accomplishment; the Band itself has the whole thing in its own hands, for that matter, and besides such socials being a source of amusement, our noted footballers should be induced to give a fancy-dress game or two for the Band benefit, and other functions .would fall into line if promoted by responsible parties. Let us have plenty of music by all means, and encourage our Band by rendering good support and unstinted monetary help. This will greatly encourage " our boys "; to, more vigour, energy, and enthusiasm, a' sine quo non to success^' aTnd they deserve all they can get, because, we must remember, they devote their time and talent'for the amusement of the public-and not themselves.
