The Growing Duckling.
The food for growing ducklings must all be in the direction of building up a large frame. This is extremely important, for unless there is plenty of bone before the final stages of fattening, the ducklings will not be able to carry the amount of flesh to make up the weight necessary with birds at eight to ten weeks of age. For bone formation there is nothing to equal coarse oatmeal made, into a stiff porridge. Ducklings are ravenous eaters, and they must not, be stinted in this respect. The chief aim is 1.0 keep them growing, which can only be done by good' food, plentifully supplied ; and by allowing them a little, but not too much exercise. Immediately tho ducklings are big enough to take grain, some should be given to them. If oats which have been soaked or steamed are given, they will continue the work of frame building which was set going by the oatmeal.
