The splendid rains of April have proved a boon to farmers, as grass, both old and that newly laid down, is showing fine growth. Stock should be in good order to face the winter.
The annual meeting of ratepayers was well attended. The retiring board presented a most satisfactory report, and was reelected without opposition.
The householders' meeting was poorly attended, residents evidently being satisfied with the conduct of affairs by the old committee, which was re-elected.
A farewell social to Mr and Mrs Leach was held in the Wesleyan Church on Tuesday, May 5. Opportunity was taken of the occasion to make a presentation to Mr Leach, which was feelingly acknowledged. Mr Lamond, his successor, is now well established.
Miss Ross, who for the past three, years has been assistant teacher in the school here, has received notice of promotion to Onehunga., During the time she has resided here Miss Ross has taken a deep interest in the work of the district, both professionally and socially, having been an active member of the Tennis and Shakespeare Clubs, and acting as assistant librarian. We wish her all good fortune in her future life.
