TERRITORIALS AND THE POLLS
IN the larger cities much is being made of the fact that while the territorials must assemble in camp at a certain time for a period during which they cannot be permitted to leave for any purpose whatever, it happens that the mayoral elections are held during the same period.
The latter is a statutory obligation, while the former has arisen out of the circumstances attending the inspecting tour of the General of the Imperial forces. In common fairness it is time to admit that this difficulty could never have been foreseen.
This year there if no help for it —the men who have votes for the mayoral elections will have to miss the polls.
A simple addition to the electoral laws, giving troops in camp the right during elections to record their votes where .they are, will get over the difficulty without opening up any dangers whatever. Thus will all interests be properly conserved.
