At Westfield Yards on Wednesday, fat cattle came forward in larger numbers than usual, and sold at scarcely up to last week's rates. Best oxen sold at 30s 6d, others 26s to 29s per 100 lb, cows and heifers 24s to 28s. Steers sold at from £8 to £13 17s 6d ; cows and heifers, £4 10s to £10 2s 6d ; a draft of 16 steers from Mr B. Reid, Waerenga. averaged £13. Veal calves came forward in good supply, and again sold well. Heavy vealers sold at from £3 17s to £4 14s, medium weights £2 to £3 15s, lighter £2 to £2 18s, others £1 to 3Ss, smaller 15s to 20s, fresh dropped 31s to 12s 6d.
Sheep were penned in usual numbers> and sold at last week's rates, Best wethers sold at from £1 3s 6d to £1 7s, others 18s 6d to £1 2s 9d ; ewes, extra heavy weights, £1 to £1 Is 9d, others 15s 6d to 19s 9d. Lambs were yarded in average numbers. Prime quality 15s 6d to 18s 3d, others 10s Gd to 15s 3d.
Pigs came forward in usual numbers' and sold at last week's rates. No baconers yarded. Large porkers, £2 8s to £3 ' porkers, £1^ 10s to £2 2s ; slips, 18s to 25s '< weaners, 6s to 15s.
