Shark and Swordfish.

An encounter between a shark and a swordfish oft Nantucket was witnessed by the passengers of the Anch O f liner "Caledonia." The passengers were brought on deck by news of the fight, about nine o'clock in the morning, while the steamer slowed down to give them an opportunity of watching the contest. The shark, about ten feet long, was seen to leap above the surface, and after him jumped the sword-fish, which was a trifle smaller. As they fell back into the ocean, the swordfish plunged his weapon into the shark's side, and the two thrashed about, churning the water, which was dyed red with the shark's blood. Then the water became calm, and the

"Caledonia's" passengers believed the shark had been killed. A moment afterwards, however, there was a renewed disturbance, and the shark again jumped above the surface. This time the sword of the swordfish was sticking in his side, alone. He had broken it from his enemy, and was the victor.
