Women Run Trains in Russia.
So satisfactory have women officials and clerks proved on the SouthRussian railroads, owned by the State, that Rukhloff, Minister of VVi-.yh and Communications, plans to extend the employment of women in the near future. He has found them capable and reliable, and as suited to night duty as the men. Therefore, he' is considering their employment on express passenger trains as conductors and ticket-col-lectors. His chief reason is that women are more conscientious, polite, and sober than the-men. Already some female station-masters
are working to his satisfaction, while for the departmental work of telegraphs and telephones their util- I ity has surpassed that of the men. All this is a. marked change on the I conditions of things twenty years ago. All over Russia, women are making their way into commercial, professional, and administrative work in a fashion unequalled in,any land, except perhaps America.
