HELENSVILLE TOWN BOARD

THE Town Board met on Saturday Present: Messrs Jas McLeod (chairman) A. Becroft, J. A. Wilson, and Jas Hand.

PUBLIC LIBRARY

Mr 0. H. Spinley attended to formally hand over the deeds of the Public Library. In doing so he advised the Board to call a meeting of subscribers and get a committee of three elected to assist in the management and selection of books. There was a sum of nearly £30 to hand over.

The Board members signed the transfer form, and when this is completed the Board will then take control of the institution.

THE WATER SUPPLY

Mr Jas Hand asked the Board to allow him to use the water supply for a house outside the town district, for which he would pay cost of installation and water used by meter. — Application granted subject to the Board having sufficient supply for the town, but to be cut off if necessary.

DRAINAGE CONNECTIONS

After discussion on the question of drainage- connections, it was decided to consider same in connection with the drafting of new by-laws, for which a special meeting of the Board was arranged for Thursday, March 26.

FINANCE REPORT

The Clerk's financial report showed that £1,683 12s Id had been spent on the water supply, and there were further commitments of £341 for extensions, £250 for purchase of land from Mr P. J. Hand, and £80 similarly for Mr Williams. A sum of £584 had been spent on the drainage, and the cost of extra pipes, etc.* would be £133.

The Chairman said that it seemed the £3000 loan would be over-spent; but the Board had power to borrow a further ten per cent on the full amount of £13,000 borrowed for this work.

The Town Board's account was shown with a debit of £193, and the Domain Board had an overdraft of £226.

GENERAL

Mr Megson's application for building permit for house in Garfield road was approved.

Auckland Gas Company notified that they could not supply any more tar to the Board at present.—Clerk to write to Dargaville Borough Council and enquire about a supply.

It was decided to get the metal on Awaroa road blinded, the Chairman to arrange for same.
