THE FRUIT INDUSTRY.
The enterprising and euthusiastic orchardist, MrH. Hjorth, of Helensville, has left us a capital samples of his apples which are eminently adopted for exportation, both for size, beauty of colour and excellence of flavour. Their names are Delicious, Gem, Queen Maud, Keaney's Winter and Scarlet Queen. Mr Hjorth claims that any ground in the surroundfng for miles is equally adapted for the growth of apples, pears, etc., such as he raises yearly, and states that when he first commenced operations he was simply laughed at for taking up such poor looking country. The pity is that we have not a Fruitgrowing Association to assist in the industry, but as other centres are now on the que vive to help themselves, no doubt this part will soon be up and
moving,
