{ Messrs Alfred Buckland and Sons report : — On Wednesday, February 25, at our weekly Westfield fat stock market, we penned beef to the number of 439 head. There was a steady demand throughout, although in most cases prices were about 10s a head below last week's quotations. Choice ox sold to £1 10s ; prime, £1 7s to £1 9s ; cows and heifers, £4 5s to £9 17s 6d ; extra well finished steers from Mr A. N. Dingle, Tamahere. £11 19s Id. There was a small entry of calves. Choice suckers were better worth, other sorts unchanged. Runners, to £4 ; heavy suckers, £2 10s to £3 5s ; choice ' medium suckers, £1 13s to £2 5s ; lighter, £1 5s to £1 12s ; small and fresh dropped, 6s to £1 ; weedy, 3s (46 sold).1 Sheep came forward in extra large numbers and included many lines of heavy prime sheep. Really prime mutton sold at about last week's rates all others were a shade easier. Extra heavy prime wethers. LI 3s to LI 4s 9d ; heavy prime, LI Is to Ll 2s 6d ; medium to heavy; 17s to 19s ; light and unfinished, 15s to 16s6d ; extra heavy prime ewes, 19s 9d to Ll 3s (2474 sold). A fair supply of lambs sold freely. Best, 14s 9cl to 16s 6d. (no extra prime lambs yarded): lighter. 13s to 14s 6d ; good stores, 11s to 12s (310 sold. Pigs came forward in usual numbers Porkers met with keen competition at late rates, as also did stores. Baconers were easier in price. Baconers, L 2 17s to L34s ; medium, L 2 12s to L 2 16s ; large porkers, £2 9s to L 2 11s ; lighter, Ll 15s to L 2 4s ; small, Ll 11s to Ll 14s ; weaners, 10s to 18s 6d ; slips, 19s to Ll 5 S (651 sold).
