At last week's sitting of the Magistrate's court in Helensville a lengthy list comprising about 70 cases, came before Mr E. Page, S.M. Following are the particulars of tne decisions recorded.

BREACH OF FISHERIES ACT. A charge of breaking the Regulation under The Fisheries Act by " stalling " was preferred against George Constable, the alleged offence being committed in the Kaipara harbour near Port Albert. The defendant pleaded that he had been off work for a fortnight prior to the incident with a poisoned hand, and that he slept in and allowed the nets to get dry. A fine of L 3 and 7s costs was imposed. An offence against the Fisheries Act also carries a penalty of forfeiture of n ets and boats used when the offence was committed. In this instance the Department has fixed the redemption fee at L2O. BUSH FIRE CLAIM. In a case in which T. Carroll sued the Rodney County Council for L2OO damages alleged as the result of a bnsh fire on complainant's farm, which was caused by the Council's workmen, judgment was given for plaintiff, after a lengthy hearing, for L 57 10s, with costs (reserved).
