Star Theatre Opened
A MOST SUCCESSFUL FUNCTION
The official opening of the "Star" Theatre (which is a reconstruction and entire renovation of the former For esters' hall) took place last Friday evening, and was celebrated by a dance and social. The district officers present were Bros. G-. Strude, D.C B J Shaldrick J.P.D.C.E., W. J. Barton D.J.W., R. Darlow D.S., and H. Dawson D.B.
The first speaker was Bro. Darlow, who complimented the local Foresters on their enterprize in providing such a splendid theatre. Bro. Strude, who dealt at some length with the benefits of Forestry, ani advised every young person of good character to join, officially declared the hall open amidst applause Bro. Shadrick, in the course of a neat speech, explained the various schemes the Executive had in handt including the Foresters' Cnnvalescens Home at Waitakere, where 20 acres had been seemed about two miles from the station. He also dealt with the scheme by which members could pro - vide their own homes, and then showed the benefits of the Insurance scheme. Mr Jas McLeod (Town Board Chairman) also made a short speech, during which he congratulated the lodge members on the enterprise they had shown in getting such a fine building. About 70 couples took part in the dancing, which to the fine" music of Meredith's orchestra was kept up with vim until 3 a.m. A splendid supper was supplied, and the ladies are to be congratulatad on having everything so nicely arranged. Great credit was also due to Bro. C. Saudin, secre'ary of Court 6b93, and his staff of officers who assisted to make the social successful. The local officers are Bros. A. Hunter C.R , J. S. Vercoe S.C R., H Hart 8.W., T. G. Russell J.W., A. Becroft jnr, 5,8.. aud J. Lambert, act. ing J,B.
Although the hall was not quite finished a gcod idea could be obtained as to svhat the result will be, and many flattering remarks were runde. Th 6 contractor Mr A. Becroft, has the work well in hand, and hopes to finish within a fortnight.
