LAWN TENNIS

HELENSVILLE V. WAIMAUKU.

A return match between the Helensville and Waimauku clubs took place at Helensville last Thursday, which resulted in a good win for the home team by 14 sets to 7 and 106 games to 85. The weather was fine but a stiff wind made the ball take direction not always intended by the players; nevertheless some good tennis was witnessed, the courts being in capital condition. The home players were in good form, especially the ladies who had a good margin of games in their favour. Great credit is also due to the ladies for the nice afternoon tea supplied.

Play was kept on until the approach of

darkness when the visitors left for their homes per medium of Hunter's brake, after an enjoyable day's tennis. Following are the details ; the Helensville players being mentioned first —

The ladies of Helensville kept the players supplied with refreshments, which met with keen appreciation. The visitors were afterwards entertained to dinner at the Terminus hotel. Before leaving Mr Ryan returned thanks on behalf of the Hakarau team for the hospitality that had been extended to them, and hoped that a return match would be arranged later on in the season. ,
