POLITICAL PILOTS.
Mr R. Hoe, of Woodhill, who is visiting the Wairoa, will probably be the Liberal and Labour candidate for Kaipara at the forthcoming election. He is a settler of 40 years' standing in Kaipara and claims to be able by actual experience to represent the wagearners and working settlers of the electorate. We learn that the Liberal and Labour party in Helens ville, Te Kopuru, Aratapu and Kaihu have unanimously decided to support Mr Hoe's candidature. Enthusiastic Liberals in other centres have invited Mr Hoe to meet them and explain his position.
Speaking of the coming election the "Wairarapa Age" states that of the tnree> parties —the Refoim, Liberal and Labour parties -the Reform side has undoubtedly the strongest position. It is in office ; the Ministry lias done good work ; in the -strike troubles it proved itself firm, wise and able, and won thereby the confidence of many who had previoxisly formed no very high opinion of its capacity. Above all the party is solid, and loyal to enthusiasm. The Liberals are relying more or less on past reputation ; forgetting that time moves on, and newer times demand newer measures. They are not solid, for Socialism has captured members of their rank and file, and Labour, almost synonymous now with Socialism, has withdrawn another large section. With these defections, while there may be a sufficient number of genuine Liberals, practically Couservatives, to form a fairly active fighting force, there is little hope of their return to power for some years
