Six Years' Milking.
COW THAT "GOES ON POP EVER."
A correspondent recently inquired of Uncle Wieseman us to the record for continuous miikhug by a cow without calving. The reply was that there appeared to be no official record, but that a case was quoted in the "Parmer and Settler" six Luonths ago that would take a good deal of beating. Mr Samuel Bisliop, of Clifton, (|., was reported to have a crossbred cow (Alderney dam and Durham sire) that had hor first calf six years ago, she being then four years old. _ For tlie first twelve mouths after calving sho proved an excellent milker, but began to go off on the approach of winter. Tho owner, thinking she was going dry, did not take any trouble over her, but kept on milking, intending to replace her with another cow, Week after week, howover, sheeontmued to give enough milk for the household, supply, and when the warm weather set in, and a plentiful supply of grass feed became available, sho came into full milking again givm<r even more in the second year than in the first. This performance sho has repeated during the three succeed in «• years, and site still furnishes a sufficient supply of beautiful ricli milk for household requirements. With reference to ■ this record Mr J. li. Ijerney, of hlurim- J bla, via Cumuock, writes that, a cow belonging to Mrs P. Berney of Kildara Eurhnbki; has been milking continuously since she calved on tbe 19th August, 15)07. This cow is giving at tlie present time a good yield of milk daily, the milk rich in quality and quite equal to that of other cows in the district that have calved recently. She has. thereforo been milking continuously for six years.
This story should set dahyiuan on the search for records to beat this one — but a six years' continuous milking: will take a great deal of beating.
