The Hobson and Otatnatea Counties have been formed into a hospital district to be called "The Northern Wairoa Hospital District". A peculiar disease has made its appearance in some of the r \mbri,dge vegetable gardens. It atta« \- s the potatoes, the'fiist sign being a b "cckening haulms just above groimd, tne leaves, however appearing bright and hoalthy. In a few days the haulms Lave rotted right through and give off an offensive odoui. In onp patch of Early Puritan potatoes inspected a day or two ago. there were about one in every dozen roots destroyed through this cause, and it appears to be a worthy—or unworthy—rival to the familiar Irish blight.
