The "Star" Pictures

Last week's programmes were again of au attractive order and provided patrons with plenty of interesting and amusing features. For to-night thore is a first-class Star drama, a film of 3,500 feet in length, titled "Father." The subject is of thrilling interest throughout. Another Star drama of 2,200 feet also appears on the programme which is termed "The crooked path." A bright educational subject, "Life of a heron," a comic film in "Plot and Pash," and a drama in "Sheriff Jim's last shot" are other entertaining features on the list. Another line programme is to hand for Saturday night, which will doubtless meet with merited support. A number of district farmers proceeded to Auckland to-day to relieve special constables who find it necessary to return to their homes for a time. Ratepayers in Maretahi district are petitioning the Manukau Council to have tlie road district merged in the country. As an instance of the quality of workmen now on the Auckland wharves it mentioned that work upon the Opawa was begun on Friday, and during the 26 working hours up to 5 p.m. yesterday 27,581 boxes of butter were stowed in the vessel, the average for the whole period being slightly over 1060 boxes per hour. The previous record was made when the Ruahino was loaded at an average of 1000 boxes per hour for 25 hours by men who were regarded as experienced watersido workers.
