IS THE BIBLE TRUE ?

TO THE EDITOR.

Sir, —In your issue for October 22nd, mention is made of a correspondent who says he has not time to discuss the question as to whether the day generally recognised as Sunday, is the seventh day of the week or the first, and he does not know any proof. He also says that the Bible itself should be proved, before people start to prove things by its use. ;This is very true, and the Bible tells us to, " Prove all things ; hold fast thsifc which is good." 1 Thess 5.2. The many letters dealing with the Sabbath question which you have been kind enough to publish, have been directed largely to those, who like myself, have proved the Bible, so of course that question did not receive particular notice. We who are in possession of these heaven-born truths, are told to, " Be* ready always, to give an answer to every man that asketh you, a reason concerning the hope that is in you "—1 Peter 3.15. RV. There are very many who have not proved the Bible, so they cannot take it as their/ guide ; these are heavy losers, and we are glad to tell them how we came to the conclusions, which give us such unbounded confidence in the Bible. The way to prove the Authorship, inspiration and authenticity of the Bible is very simple. It is to follow the rule which the Writer of the Bible has Himself laid down. He tells us that Faith cometh by hearing " — Rom 10.17. All, who with honest purpose study the Bible, will become acquainted with its Author, who has promised to make Himself known to them-Prov 8.17; John 14.23.24. They will find, as others have found, that the Bible is a light unto their path—Ps 119,105.103 ; Matt 5.6. Some people think they have no time for these things, but we have a whole life-time at our disposal, and find tim,e for many things of far less importance. " What is a man profited if he shall .gain the whole world, and lose his own soul tl —Matt 16-26. " Seek ye first the kingdom of God, and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added unto you " —Matt 6.33. If these things are not clear to your readers I shall be glad to get word from them. I am, etc, GEO. JOHNSON, Parkhurst.

There was a mistake published in Mr Johnson's letter last week, which should have read ; " All who believe, can say with Paul — " Now faith is come we are no longer under a schoolmaster, There are many good people who, when they read the verse just quoted, conclude, that as we are no longer under a schoolmaster, we need not keep the law of God, and so have no use for the Sabbath commandment."
