report:— ' At our weekly Westfield. fat stock market on Wednesday, Sept, 17, our beef pens contained 287 head, the quality being first-class. There was an improved demand, and choice ox was better worth. Choice ox sold to Ll 14s, prime Ll 9s to Ll 12s, cows and heifers Ll 5s to Ll 9s, steers from L 8 to Ll6 7s 6d, cows and heifers L 4 10s to Ll2; 16 prime bullocks from Mr H. J. Gill, Te Puke, averaged Ll4 6s, and several other trucks of Waikato cattle averaged over Ll3 10s. Calves again penned in large numbers, and mot a ready sale at late high rates. No runners were offered. Heavy suckers made L 3 8s to L 4 ss, medium L 2 6s to L 3 ss, light Ll 5s to L 2 4s, small and fresh-dropped 11s to Ll ss, weedy 4s to 7s (132 sold). There was a full entry of fat sheep. Competition was steady throughout, and values remained the same "as at last report. Extra heavy prime wsthers'f etched H 12s to Lll 3s 3d, heavy prime Ll 8s Sd to £1 1 Is, medium to heavy Ll 5 S to Ll 7s 6d, light and unfinished Ll 3s to Ll 4s 6d, extra heavy prime ewes Ll 8s to Ll 11s 6d, others Ll 3s to Ll 4s 6d, extra heavy prime ewes Ll 8s to Ll 11s 6d, others Ll 3s to Li 7s, hoggets 18s 6d to Ll 3s 9d (1947 sold). Spring lambs were short of requirements. Lambs from Messis Geo. Cox and C. Levet, of Mangere, and A. Orr, of Morrinsville, brought 19s to Ll Is 3d (20 sold). Pigs were penned in average num* bers. There was a keen demand, and a sharp rise in values. Choppers made L 5 Is to L 5 J9s, heavy baconers L 4 5s to L 5, lighter L 3 10s to L 4 2s, large porkers L 2 18s to L 3 Bs, smaller L2to L 2 13s, light Ll 10s to Ll 18s, well-bred weaners 19s to Ll 0s 6d, others 14s tb 18s (154 pigs sold).
