SCHOOL FOOTBALL.
The Port Albert team and a team representing Kaipara Union played at Helen sville last {Saturday, the game ending in favor of Kaipara by 18 points to 14, Play in the opening stages was bright and nippy, neither side having much advantage. On settling down the home side were mostly aggressive and a bit of good work by Fletcher and Logan McLeod ended in a try to Fletcher. Two free kicks to Kaipara narrowly misaed scoring and at quarter time the visitors were three points behind. Immediately on resumming a forward rush ended in a try to Gr. Snell, which Logan' McLeod converted, putting Kaipara 8 points ahead. Several promising attacks by the visitors in which Reid, McEae and Donaldson showed up, were repulsed by Fletcher and L. McLeod. For Albertland Williams narrowly missed scoring from penalties and a drop-kick by him passed under the cross-bar. A movement initiated by V. McLeod and Fletcher ended in a try to J. Fulton, half-time arriving with the score 13 to nil. In the third spell the Kaipara team seemed to ease off somewhat. Williams landed a goal for the visitors, and converted a try by Booth. The Albert team were holding the upper hand, but the home team retaliated and what appeared to be a good try to V. McLeod was not allowed. For the last spell the score stood at 13^8, and the game had not been longin progress when McEae scored a try for Port Albert. Kaipara were now on their mettle and a good piece ot work ended in Fulton and Fletcher dribbling over the line for the former J;o score. Fletcher converted. In the closing stages Williams landed a penalty goal for the visitors, leaving the result : Kaipara 18 points, Port Albert 14 points. Mr Stevens, of Onehunga, proved a highly capable referee. Of the visiting team Donaldson, Me Eae, Keid, Booth and Dunnan got through a lot of work, and Williams was valuable for his goal kicking ability. In the home ranks Fletcher, Logan McLeod, Fulton and Williams wero prominent. The other backs were fairly safe, and, the forward division, headed by Snell, played well, but failed to get the ball out to their backs from the scrum—a serious omisaion.
The School football match, Newton West v, Helensville, resulted in a win for the visitors by 12 to 5, after an excellent game. The visitors were a good team, and played well together ; but the home team, though lacking iv science, played with considerable dasb, and Mr Frank Wilson, -who refereed for the Pukekohe match a fortnight ago, stated that, on last Satxirday's form we should have beaten the latter team. As before, Masters was our mainstay ; it is unfortunate there is to bo no Public School Eep. match this season, or he would undoubtedly have been picked m the Auckland team. His try was a clever one, and was convorted by a good kick by Airey from an awkward anglo. All the other members of the team played up well, but F. Ferrall, at half-back, deservos special mention. Tries Avere scored for the visitors by KnOwles, Lock, Marsden and Noyes, Early in (ha game, one of the homo team,"]*]. Campbell, had the misfortune to fall in an awkward position and broak his leg. Dr Meiuhold ,vas summoned and urlerod his removal to the hospital. He had been playing a very plucky game till he received his injury.
Mr Cucksey provod a most eflicient, and popuJf.r refore^.
After refreshments had been served out, the visitors were taken to the Hot Springs, which added much to their enjoyment of the day's outing-.
