Messrs Alfred Buckland and Sons report: — At our weekly Westfield fat fatock market on Wednesday July 23, our supply of beef totalled 375 head, and all of excellent quality. There was a firm demand throughout, choice and prime ox. being slightly better worth. Choice ox, to Ll 13s ; prime Ll 8s to Ll 10s ; cows and heifers, Ll 4s to Ll 9s; steers ranged in price from L7 10s to Ll6 10s ; cows and heifers L5 to LlO ss. A draft of 47 extra choice heavy bullocks averaged Ll4 12s 3d. and many other consignments averaged over Ll3. A full supply of fat and young calves sold at ruling rates. Heavy suckers, L3 10s to L4 5s ; medium suckers, L2 3s to L3 3s ; light, Ll 5s to Ll 15s ; small and fresh dropped, 3s to Ll Is (95 sold) The sheep pens were moderately filled with mutton 'of nice quality. Competition was spirited, with a further advance in values. Extra heavy prime wethers, Ll 10s 6d to Ll 18s 6d ; heavy prime, Ll 7s to Ll 9s ; medium to heavy, Ll 2s 6d to Ll 6s 6d; light and unfinished, 15s6d to Ll Is ; extra heavy prime ewes, Ll 8s; others, 17s to 19s; best hoggets, 18s to Ll Is; a few extra special heavy, Ll 6s to Ll 12s; others . 14s to 17a i unfinished, 12a to 13s 6d (1985 sheep sold). Pigs were penned in full numbers. The demand continues strong, and values remain much in favour of the vendors. Choppers, L6 to L6 12s ; heavy baconers, L4 10s to L5 8s ; lighter, L3 iss to L4 5s ; porkers, large, L3 3s to L3 12s ; smaller, L2 8s to L3 ; light, Ll 10s to L2 6s ; poor slips, 15s j weanexs, Ss to 14s (215 sold).
