FOOTBALL
PAEAKAI WIN CHAMPION-
SHIP.
Parakai (11), Helensville (3).
Despite the wet turf and greasy ball the manner in which Helensville opened led the spectators to expect a very close game between these teams. As the result of some bright, nippy gathering and passing Helensville had a three points lead within four minutes from the start, a try by Teasdale, Assisted with the wind Helensville were , mostly aggressive, Parakai occassionally attacking through Logan McLeod, The Parakai backs defended well. On turning round Helens* ville were quite as dangerous as their oppnoents, and ifrwaa just on the call of half-time (some people declared it was after half-time should have been called) Parakai scored owing to a weak effort by a Helensi ville three-quarter, " Mick. " Bradly pouncing on the leather. Early in the third spell some scrambling play near Helensville end followed the kick-off, and " Mick " Bradly got near enough the ball to touch down as two defenders failed to field it. Logan McLeod converted. Shortly afterwards, Dickie, who was folio-w----ing up a rolling ball, was awarded a try for obstruction ; although a paK pable case of obstruction it was very questionable as to whether Dickie would have reached the ball before it went touclwn*goal. The quality of football from this stage was very /moderate, the Helensville team following the Parakai style of play, a tight forward game, and neglecting the bright nippy passing movements that had previously been so advantageous, and may have brought about a win if persevered with. N/ear the end Parakai lost a certain score by one of their players cutting in too near Logan Mg Leod for the pass when near Helens** viJle line. The game ended : Parakai I goal, 2 tries, 11 points, Helensville I try, 3 points. Mr Durand refereed; Parakai (last year's winners) thus secured the championship with a substantial lead over Wairnauku, their nearest opponents. On the Helensville side V. McLeod, Masters, W. White, Sandin, Wilson, Garry (2), Teasdale and Snell got through a lot of work, and for the winners L. McLeod, McArthur, Newman, H. McLeod and the Bradlys were prominent.
