Alfred Buckland and Sons' Sales.
Messrs Alfred Buckland and Sons report:— At our weekly Westfield fat stock market on Wednesday July 9, our I entry of beef numbered 255, which, is considerably less than an average yarding. The quality, also, was inferior to late sales. Competition was more spirited, Jand values advanced about 15s per head" Choice ox sold to Ll 12s, prime Ll 7s to Ll 9s ; cows and heifers, Ll to Ll 8s ; steers ranged in price from L 7 15s toLl4 17s 6d ; COWB and heifers, 1.4 to L 9 ss. A fair supply of fat and young calves sold freely at ruling extreme figures, Kunners, L 4 los to L 6 18s ; suckers, heavy L 3 15s to L4l2s, medium L 2 5s to L 3 Bs, light Ll 5s to L 2 2s, small and fresh-dropped 3s to Ll Is; 58 sold. Sheep penned in scarcely average numbers. There was an improved demand, with a decided advance in prices, prime sheep being worth, more by from 3s to 4s per head. Extra heavy prime wethers Ll 9s to Ll 10s, heavy prime Ll 5s to Ll 8s 6d, — medium, to heavy Ll Is to Ll 4s 6d, light and unfinished 15s to 19s 6d , best weighty ewes Li 4s to Ll 6s 3d; good 18s 6d to Ll 3s, others 14s to 17s 6d; hoggets, 12s to 17s; 1663 sheep sold. The i 57 pigs penned were chiefly baconers and porkers. Competition was extra keen, and values were the highest experienced for many years. Choppers, L 55s to L 7 ; baconers, heavy L 4 8s to L 5, lighter L 3 13s to L 4 2s ; porkers, large L 3 3s to L 3 12s, smaller L 2 8s to L 2 18s, light Ll 11s to L 2 ss. Few stores were offered.
