KAIWAKA.
(From Our Own Correspondent.)
A very sad accident befel the 18 month old child of Mr and Mrs E. Hjoith on Thursday last. It appears Mrs Hjorth had just set so mo tea to brow, and going out of the room for a few minutes, the little boy caught the tea-pot by the spout and poured some ofthV contents into his mouth and down his throat, resulting in his death some 36 hours later. The child will be buried in Helensville on Monday. This accident is particularly sad, as just before the parents came here, their eldest son was the victim of a shooting accident at Hoteo which will he fresh in the memory of people of your town. Much sympathy is felt for the parents, in this, their second sad bereavement.
The weather has been unusually wintry during the last . few days, seveie- hail showers and cutting cold winds, undoing to a great extent the results of the" beautifully fine week precaeding. The land is remarkably dry for July, not having had sufficient rain at one time to give the ground a proper soaking, together with hard frosts; in many places cracks are still visible, and the ground as hard as it should be in early autumn. There has not even been a good run in the creeks yet, let alone a fresh , all rain .beside first break of drought has fallen in showers. 13th July.
