Auckland Milk Supply.

A meeting of dairymen interested in the question of supplying Auckland with milk took place at Parakai last Thursday. The attendance was between 30 and 40, and Mr J. McLeod was voted to the chair. The convener was Mr J. C. Rimmer, who has been acting in the matter for the Kaipara Dairy Company. When he went to Auckland to look up a source of supply he found a company was being formed on co-operative lines to supply milk. Instead of getting orders separately he thought it would be better to join in with this company. The promoters of the company had "been afraid of an opposition supply from Helensvilie, and were pleased at the prospect of them joining in. The question came before the next meeting of Kaipara Dairy Company, and the directors agreed to give the project their support. Mr Rimmer then arranged for Messrs I. Gray and H. R. McKenzie, president and vicepresident respectively of the newlyformed company to visit Helensville and explain the position. Mr Gray outlined all that had been done up to the present time. He said it was time the farmers combined and looked after their own interests. At the present time a co-operative concern was supplying milk to a large portion of Dunedin and doing well. They had written to that Association for particulars. The information to hand was that the cost of retailing milk was 3d per gallon. In Auckland at the present time the farmer only got 8d while the milk was sold at Is 4d or Is sd, which showed nearly as much for distribution as the farmer got for producing. Mr McKenzie explained the procedure followed in forming the company, financing etc, after which a lot of questions were asked and answered. On the motion of Messrs Farreli and Jowitt the following resolution was adopted : " That this meeting agrees to give hearty support to the Auckland Farmers' Co-operative Milk Supply Co., Ltd, also agrees not to sell our milk to any person (at a less rate than B£d for six months and 10£ d for six months) heing the price as fixed by the Company.
