The Railway Ball takes place on Friday evening in the Foresters' hall, Tho Kaipara Dahy Company are advancing Is per lb on butterfat supplied during June. The tender of Mr J. E. Siincock at £283 17s, which was tho lowest and is to be reduced b} r alterations in the plan, was accepted by the Domain Board for erection of pavilion. For May the Kaipara Dairy Company received 7595 lbs of butterfat, for which the sum of £370 l.^s was the pay out. This is slightly less than was received last year owing to the dry season experienced, but the pay out is rather more. Speaking at the A. and P. Association on Wednesday evening, Mr Gordon Coates, M,P, said that during the past month he had seen a good deal of the condition* the settlers were working under, and he realised more than over the necessity for any Government paying particular attention to the requirements of the men responsible for ninp-tenths of the products of the country. There must be public money spent in making roads so that the farmers could get into touch with the mavkets. The country required a more progressive public works policy. For the past thirty jears many of the settlers had been isolated ; there was mud up to the horses' girths ; and he said quite plainly that an administra'lon that did not provide for the Wants of these settlers would not suit him. The present Government or any Government would not be doing the best for the country unless a vigorous roading policy was carried out. At Saturday's Domniu Board meet ing an application was received from Mrs A. E. FeiTall for permission to erect afternoon tea rooms ai. the Domain. Owing to the .Domain Boards' Act the Board had no power to CDmp'y with the request.
