In the early part of the week Mr J. McLeod went north to act as assessor for Rodney County Council in a claim for damages against the Council by a landowner who alleged that a fire started on the roadside spread to his property.

The Commissioner of Crown Lands, also Messrs. Ritchie and Harris of the Land Board, went up to Wellsford on Monday. It is understood that they intended to proceed on to Port Albert, and later inspect Mr A. Harding's property with a view to its being purchased by the Government under the land settlement scheme
