- ♦- . The application of lime to the soil is one of the oldest methods of treatment known in agriculture. It was apparently employed by the I^oinnns •■I 2000 years ago. In various European | countries ir. has been practised for ; many years past. In fact, in all j countries where llio principals of agriculture are scientilically pursued it i.3 recognised that the use of lime in j various form 3 may be of immenso j benefit to the soil. i The record price for the Burnside yards, Dunediu, last week, was broken by a wether, which changed hands •at 535. A ndiole pen of wethers sold at 49s each, this price also constituting a fresh record. A pen of two-tooth wethers brought 40s Gd, and ewes sold as high as 37s Gd. Duncan, of Iviiwhinlock, Bute (Scotland). It is oval-shaped white, medium early, of very "oocl ; (puality, a heavy cropper, and free from j disease. This is its third, season in i Scotland where the originator has 1 tested it . thoroughly.
