Half-Pie Bowling Clubs.

TO TIIE EDITOR

Sir. —It is regretable to see the position of Bowling matters in Helensville, according to your recent issue. It has been the subject of much comment by visitor's recently, and I am sure if only those concerned would view the position as it appeals to an outsider, they would hesitate and reconsider. There was some talk of holding a smoke concert to wind up the season. Why not allow this to eventuate and during the height of conviriality allow some broad-minded citizen to address the gathering in concilatory terms, and see if a reconciliation cannot be brought .about? If present conditions continue it means two half-pie Bowling Clubs and two half-pie greens, and in a few years' time, two weedy paddocks and two bankrupt Bowling clubs. But, should an amalgamation be arncted, there is no , reason why Helensville should not form one good strong financial Club, and, if it is true that each ; Club can boast 40 members, why, a full 8-rink green could be made i at once with 80 members to support it, Why let such a small question of site prove a barrier ? At the present time there are no financial members of any Club, as one season is past and the next not entered upon. I contend, therefore, that a mass meeting of all Bowlers should be called under the title of the old Club, elect officers for coming year from the whole crowd, then take a vote from the whole of the bowlers as to the site, and I think that the majority for one site or the other would preclude any idea of a second. I carry no brief for either club, or site, and have no axe to grind, my only wish is to see one solid club, one good green, unanimity and good fellow-ship ; and the total abolition of that narrow minded feeling of North versus South. I am, etc, W. Harris. Parakai, 17-6-13.
