The estimated total population of New Zealand (including dependencies) on March 31st was 1,124,190, the increase for the quarter previous being 9,121, 1 It is notified in the "Gazette" that after December 31st next the present issue of duty and postage stamps will be displaced by new issues of all denominations. The Club have decided to give a prize at the end of the season to the Lady and Gentleman scoring the highest number of games. The Railway Department advertises particulars of alterations to the timetable, by which .the express service is continued on from Helensville to Kaiwaka on Tuesdays and Fridays. There are also other alterations to train service between Helenovilie and fCaiwaka. The Parakai Football club's dance held last night proved very enjoyable. Owing to the stormy weather there was not a very large attendance, but those present had a really good time. The music was provided by Misses Little and Donovan aud dancing was continued until about 12 o'clock. Mr J. Reynard was M.C. and Mr A. McLeod eecretary. The weather lias t>e«n exceedingly boisterous and squally during the past few days, Sunday morning being particularly rough. So far as wo can learn, however, there was no serious damage in the distiict. The OhiraDgi railway sholter shed was blown over ; the roof was lifted orf a house bolonging to Stewart Bros whioh was being removed on Awaroa road ; three window panes were broken at the Kaipara hetel ; and one at Mr Pot.o's shop ; otherwise there was very little damage done. Iv the out districts a few sheds and tress wore blown flown. There is a despicable sort of sneak thief travels by the railway trains from Auckland to the subirrdan districts. The other evening t,vo Helensvillo residents got aboard the Kaipara train, and one moved to the next car to see a friend when Hearing Newmarket, leaving his coat on the rack. At Mt Eden the other H«lens~ villo resident moved from the car, ami the suburban sneak, who had evidently been watching their movements, purloined the coat between that place and Avondale. It is by no meaus an unco nun on occurrence on this particular train and it would be well for the detective force to keep a sharp lookout for this sort of criminal.
